Records show that women’s league has been inaugurated on 17th September 1939. It is at the instance of missionary lady Reece that Ms. Resta de Alwis along with Mrs. W. A. Peiris, Mrs. R. F. de Alwis and Letticia Peiris started the women’s league in Hendala. They attended all meetings of then Ceylon Baptist Council. Subsequently Mrs. Mabel Peiris and Mrs. Conny Mawela have given much needed leadership at the time.
The Hendala Women’s League continues its mission with the able leadership of President and the committee. They organize and conduct monthly cottage prayer meetings, visit the sick and the women in prison, support Bible study and worship in church and play an active part in teaching in the Sunday School.
